No reviews

Yes it is silent in this section. There are more important things to do than watching films! But what does not really help either is that my girlfriend sometimes comes home with films that I do not feel like reviewing here. Two 007’s for example (funny that in The Man With The Golden Gun two actors from The Wicker Man have significant parts) and yesterday we watched the magnificent La Cite des Enfents Perdus (City Of Lost Children), because we did not feel like getting a new film from the videostore. The good news is that there are new book- and musicreviews.

Kung Fu Killer * Philip Spink (2008)

Kong Fu KillerWhen the box would have had the original title instead of “White Crane Chronicles” on it, I would not have even picked it from the shelf to have a look. Kung Fu films are not my cup of tea. A story about monastries, spiritual mastership and a bit more of that made me bring home these miniseries. Well, “Kung Fu Killer” aka “White Crane Chronicles” is an average American martial arts film in which a Western student in the East goes out to avenge his master. Nothing special.

Estômago * Marcos Jorge (2007)

Estômago“Estômago” (which seems to mean nothing more than “stomach”) is a Brazilian film, spoken in the strange language Portugese. This highly acclaimed arthouse film is about food and eating mostly. Nonato is discovered as a great cook by accident and we alternally see two parts of his life. This is actually all there is to say about the story. The film is quite nice. There is nice subtle and sometimes rather dark humour. The characters are nicely found and worked out, the acting is good and the subject original.
★★★½☆
